Kaunas Airport, which will become the Lithuanian aviation centre for 35 days starting from the 14th of July, is getting ready for more intensive than usual passenger and flight flows by increasing the number of parking lots and changing the arrangement of traffic at the departure terminal. Investments in the development of new transport infrastructure convenient for customers and changes to the existing infrastructure total about EUR 750 000.
Even though during the reconstruction of runway of the Vilnius Airport as many as 2300 parking spots for vehicles of passengers, servicing staff, taxis and car rentals as well as buses will be ensured nearby Kaunas Airport, they may be insufficient to meet the needs of all.
“In order to avoid traffic jams and vehicles parked in no parking zones, we make every effort for Kaunas Airport to be conveniently reached by public transport. Bus schedule will be adapted to flight schedule, and this is why we invite our passengers to actively use them”, - said Donatas Voveris, Executive Director of Lithuanian Airports.
D. Voveris noted that the installation of vehicle parking spots was also limited by the area of the land plot owned by Kaunas Airport.
This summer passengers of Kaunas Airport will face a pleasant novelty - drivers bringing their friends or relatives to the airport will be able to arrive to the passenger terminal and, having stopped there for a moment, say goodbye to departing loved ones. The so-called “Kiss and Fly” zones will be set up at the Kaunas airport departure terminals - the temporary terminal A and the permanent terminal B. It will be accessible without entering parking lots.
The Executive Director of Lithuanian Airports reminded that regardless of the means of transport that they choose to come to the airport, passengers should arrive to Kaunas Airport 2 hours before their flight.
Those meeting guests or loved ones having landed in the Kaunas Airport should choose a short-term parking lot - there will be a possibility to park a vehicle once per day for 15 minutes free of charge.
During the period from the 14th of July till the 18th of August, tariffs of parking lots installed nearby the Kaunas Airport will be the same as the currently valid tariffs in Vilnius Airport.
