As the summer season of aviation is gaining momentum, from May 2021, passengers at Lithuanian airports will be able to choose from even more direct flights. According to current plans of the airlines, there will be almost 40 routes for business, leisure and business travel operated at the three airports of Lithuania.

According to Aurimas Stikliūnas, Head of Aviation Services at Lithuanian Airports, general trends in Europe show signs of recovery in passenger aviation.

"Not only are people longing for travel, but they are aware even clearer that the virus will not go away quickly, so they more often decide not to wait and start looking for a destination to fly to. We believe that the offers of new directions will meet their needs. In May, new routes will be offered from Vilnius and Kaunas airports: the directions will be relevant both for those flying in popular directions among emigrants or for business purposes, and for passengers wishing to have a holiday,” says A. Stikliūnas.

According to him, holidaymakers can expect increasingly favourable conditions as mass vaccination campaigns are gaining momentum in Europe, and some countries want to be more visible to potential tourists. The expert mentions Greece as an example, to which direct flights from Kaunas and Vilnius airports should start in May. According to A. Stikliūnas, tourists who have been vaccinated or have a negative COVID-19 test, are not subject to self-isolation requirements in this country and in at least a few others that can be reached by direct flights from Lithuania.

It is planned that the recovery of passenger aviation will be accelerated by the Digital Green Certificate, which will start in Europe in June.

Commenting on the growing supply of routes, A. Stikliūnas emphasizes that the need to comply with the necessary safety measures will not go away.

"Mandatory tests, strict safety rules and appropriate measures are the new reality to which we must all be able to adapt. The virus will not go away on its own, so we have to learn to live under the changed circumstances, which means that the safety of us and those around us depends largely on our own behaviour. Therefore, both in our daily lives and during our travels, let us be responsible and protect each other,” says the Head of Aviation Services at Lithuanian Airports.
